Mongolian Hot Pot Record 15 Servings of Meat

Life is all about setting records. When it comes to Inner Mongolian Hot Pot at $5 dollars a serving it just gets expensive. When Frank and I go we tend to rack up $100 each time. But not at lunch when the deal is $17.99 all you can eat, we don't have to worry about the check. When I ordered some cabbage, enoki mushrooms, 2 servings of tofu and the first 2 servings of lamb the lady said that's all you are eating for all you can eat? I told her she should prepare to be terrified as to how much we will be devouring. According to the Manager, 15 plates for 2 is a record for the place!
Previous Records
6/2007 - 18 Servings - 4 People - Kenny, Rob, Frank, Me - 1 hour 15 minutes
7/2007 - 12 Servings - 2 People - Me & Kenny - 2 hours
6/2008 - 14 Servings - 5 People - Jie, Linda, Sherrie, Hubby and Me - 1 hour
7/2008 - 8 Servings - 2 People - Me & Bob - 1 hour 15 minutes
Yesterday - 15 Servings - 2 People - Me & Frank - 1 hour 15 minutes

Each large plate equals 2 servings of lamb. We did 14 servings of lamb, 1 serving of beef and also had 1 serving of tripe. We also had 2 orders of tofu, 1 order of cabbage, and 2 orders of enoki mushrooms to balance the diet. I think we definetly hit our $100 worth of food.

This is a photo when Kenny and I went last year. This gives you an idea of the plate sizes.

My co-worker brought up to me that lamb is actually good for your health. I did some searching and surprised to find that it really is!

Daddy's Little Girl

You never realize how much you miss your child until you spend time away from them. Had a busy weekend away from my daughter and I must say she has such a special place in my heart. Life is a tough road, often throwing challenges at you that are hard and rough. It is such a blessing to be able to come home to a child who has none of of the wordly influences and greet you with a welcoming smile. Just in case you were wondering if this is truly my daughter, in this photo she is telling you that she loves food as much as her Dad does!

Movies to Rent

One thing you will find about having a child is that in your spare time you watch a-lot of movies which is alright by me. Here is my latest rental movie evaluation what to watch and what not to.

Wanted - B

Well to start with I had the opportunity to sneak off and watch Wanted in the Theatre. I thought the movie was alright, I'd give it a B for entertainment sake. There was good action and a few twists in the plot but all in all a bit cheesy in my opinion. If you are going for Angelina Jolie there were a few nice scenes but a bit overrated as a whole.

Definetly Maybe - A-

Definetly certaintly a worthy rental for those of you looking for a romantic and slight comedy. There are a few very touching moments in this film and it truly steps out of the traditional love story to keep you guessing all the way to the end. Good cast of characters and for once Ryan Reynolds for once pulls off a more serious verses his usual goofy roles. Rachel Weisz we all know from the Mummy series plays a very strong and daring character. Those of you who remember the crazy sister next to Vince Vaughn in Wedding Crashers will like Isla Fisher in a more serious role yet still with that lovable side of her. A definite rental if you are looking for a romantic night at home. I rate this an A- go rent it!

We Own the Night - A-

The Streets meets Cops and a son caught in between both worlds. The Boston police department is back in the 80's with a recreation of the city and criminal state of the city. Great plot about societal issues that puts a family in the middle of it. Excellent film and plenty of drama and a great plot. The story is that Joaquin Phoenix did not get along with Eva Mendes stating that she is the worst actress he's seen. I don't know if this is rumor or fact but there does seem to be a lack of chemistry between the two and she was quite uneventful in the movie. Great acting by Joaquin, Mark Wahlberg and Robert Duvall however. If you like this type of thriller see "The Departed" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0407887/ or the original chinese version "Infernal Affairs" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0338564/ which are A+ films.

Juno - B+

How this movie inspired a bunch of teens to get pregnant I do not know. But the movie itself is entertaining yet a cruel reality at times. Great acting by Ellen Page who you saw in X-men III. Her acting of a teenager in denial of the baby growing in her belly is quite an amazing act. I give this a B+ with good acting from Ellen and a very different storyline. I rate this a B+ worth watching if you are looking for a different drama.

Lust Caution - B

I do caution all that this is a heavily rated movie and I would not be commenting on it if there was not some chinese origin to it. This movie is all in all disturbing in it's storyline which from which my parents have mentioned that many in that time did fall in love with the local Chinese that became Japanese agents called (Han Jian) who worked against their own people during World War II.

Not enough time was spent by Director Ang Lee in talking about the war itself and the loss of human life in the Asian regions during World War II. Much press has been given to Europe in Schindler's list in cinema, many critics hoped that this movie would do the same. Instead it achieved it's goal of being an erotic, disturbing and provocative film that left you with a bitter taste in your mouth. It definetly pushed the envelope of asian cinema as far as a steamy romance was concerned and the reality of how relations of this kind often end in feelings no matter how noble the intentions. Worth watching for the different type of Asian cinematic experience but a B grade on this movie.

All You Can Eat Tuesday Back at Inner Mongolian Hot Pot!

For those of you lamb lovers out there Inner Mongolian Hot Pot is the BEST quality lamb you will find in the USA. A franchise from China where they have the freshest lamb ever, forget Hot Pot City or those other hot pot places. High quality is really the name of the game for the lamb and the beef as well. The thin sliced, nicely marbled but not fat slices of meat are to die for. The spicy soup broth truly couples very well with the lamb meat and they are right no sauces are required.

The proper strategy to get your dollars worth in a tough economy is to forgo the $5 enoki mushrooms or $5 tofu and just do plate after plate of lamb. My record of plates between my nephew and I are 18 plates of lamb in 1 sitting.
Be prepared to pay the price for high quality. A typical meal for me averages $45 a person when I go but it is well worth it.

For those of you under a budget, Tuesdays are all you can eat for $17.99 for 1.5 hours until the end of August 2008. Look for this promotion because it cuts a $45 cost down to $18. We were able to do 14 plates within the time restriction. Unfortunately there is no sense of urgency from the staff during this time so you might not be able to do more than this during the time frame.
Hands down 5 stars the best Hot Pot for lamb and beef lovers out there with a broth that is unreproducible.
