My Beloved 49ers

A Deep Long Sigh for my beloved 49ers. At least Ava and I look good in our outfit. Except that I hear there will be some contraband Denver Bronco gear arriving shortly! =) It's only fair. A part of me was hopeful and believing that somehow someway this team would be competitive enough to get us a winning season. My dreams came to a screeching halt yesterday. Veteran quarterbacks making veteran plays is what New Orleans brought to the 49ers on Sunday.

Many teams seem to have a long time rejuvenated quarterback at the helm. You've got Jeff Garcia, Brian Griese, Kerry Collins, Kurt Warner and even Gus Ferrotte reigniting offenses around the league. Of course you have the proven veterans the Manning brothers, Favre, Mcnabb and up and coming QB's Rivers, Cutler and Rodgers. Nothing beats experience but it's not all on the QB. The offensive line needs to hold as well. We have the Super Bowl champs and the red hot Eagles with Mcnabb next. We are 2-2 and we have a long season ahead of us. Here's to improvement every week! Go Niners!

Safeway's 48 Hour Weekend Sales

I have been fighting to try to continue going to Albertsons now the resurrected Lucky's. Just every time I go in there I just don't feel that the staff is even aware that I am there as a paying customer.

As of this weekend I can no longer deny shopping at the Safeway near my home. Taking from my microeconomics course and talking about product differentiation; Safeway has the $1.50 DVD Play machine, $9.99 roses, the 5 gallon purified water and now 48 hour weekend sales! Safeway is no longer concerned with the lowly Lucky's food chain across the street, they want to make us treasure hunt like at Costco and it is working. Every weekend for 48 hours, Safeway has items heavily discounted. This week it was $1.88 Oreo cookies and if you could find the coupon for 88 cents off for $1. There were also 49 cent per pound apples. On the left Gatorade was being sold for 57 cents and on the right "All American Sandwich" was made on fresh steaming french bread with 3 layers of different meats for the price of $5! I was only able to eat half of this bad boy and normal price is $7.99. In retrospect, even Subway's now scaled down $5 menu cannot beat this deal even on the regular price. This sandwich can feed 4 people for $7.99! So now I know what I am doing every weekend, I am heading to Safeway to hunt for the deal of the weekend as I do at Costco. I will try not to fall into the trap of buying whatever I see but isn't that part of the fun?

An Old Fashion Whipping

This weekends 49er game was nothing but an old fashion whipping. How wonderful would it be to be able to take on a former employer who let you go and then to beat them 2 ways from Sunday simply poetic! Mike Martz did just that to his former employer the Detroit Lions. Granted the Detroit Lions are not the greatest team around especially without Mike Martz, but this was a great game that showed the fruits of what the 49ers have been trying to build on offense. JT spread the ball around and was quite mobile during game play. The timing routes are truly revealing themselves. The running game coupled with the passing game is opening up the playbook.

I am still cautiously optimistic because the next 3 games on the schedule will really test out this 49er team. New Orleans mounted a valiant comeback against a very solid Denver team and almost pulled it off. There will be a very tough battle next week on the road. 2 more home games follow with New England and Philadelphia. New England was delivered an old fashion whopping from the Miami Dolphins with 4 direct snaps directly to their running back today. This is probably payback for last years running up the scoreboard on a terrible Miami Dolphins team during the Patriots undefeated season. Even with Cassel's struggles today this is still a very dangerous team. Make no mistake Belicheck will be prepared for the games to come. The Eagles show no sign of slowing down playing a tough Pittsburg team today. Then there are the mighty 3 - 0 NY Giants squeaking by on their last few games but still possessing that post Superbowl swagger and finding a way to win. Another tough game for this young 49er team. Then there are the Seattle Seahawks who may come out of their rut and dominate this division as they do year in and year out.

Looking long term the schedule only get worse. We have the red hot Kurt Warner and the Cardinals, the NFC's hottest team with good old TO and the Cowboys, the young but up and coming Buffalo Bills, Brett Favre and the NY Jets and an upgraded Washington Redskins. The only gimmes would be 2 games against the Rams and maybe a game against the Miami Dolphins. All other games will be hard fought battles in the trenches.
I will keep my fingers crossed and have faith as a 49er faithful fan. I will sport my jersey every Sunday, check scores on my phone, watch the game on NFL sunday ticket or listen on the radio. Go Niners!

Congratulations Annie and Andrew!

A big congratulations to my Sister Annie and Andrew on your engagement! For those of you that don't know, yes I do have a sister she ended up staying in San Diego (who can blame her!) and currently at Columbia in New York getting her Masters in nursing. I wish the two of the you all the happiness in the years to come. We look forward to heading down to SD for the wedding ceremony. In two years I am looking forward to you coming home to help me hold the fort with the folks. =)

Ava is also looking forward to (if so honored with the privilege) of being your flower girl for GuGu! Hope to see you all soon and a big congratulations!

Football Sunday

A big thanks to Mama for getting Ava a 49ers onesies! Let's get her a Denver Bronco one for you as well! She looks wonderful and proud to say that the Niners won today!

The 49ers started off slowly trailing 14 - 0 against the Seahawks. JT showed some flashes of greatness as wide receivers Bruce and Morgan steped up to help. Frank Gore also did his part with the exception of the fumble. The game was a nail biter with a missed field goal and the offense getting Nedney close enough for an overtime field goal to win the game. I am impressed with the revival of the offense and perhaps the timing is starting to click through Mike Martz's design. The defense had a monstrous day with Patrick Willis returning an interception for a touchdown. Again we have to keep an keen eye on this team. If they can keep up a similar performance we could have a season.

Another nail biter was the shootout between Denver and San Diego. A great game all around and Cutler looks like the real deal, he's got a rocket arm and he is a competitor. Thanks goodness Katie started Cutler and Marshall on our fantasy team!

I am also excited to see some forgotten veterans having great weekend. The likes of Brian Griese replacing Jeff Garcia in Tampa, Kerry Collins replacing Vince Young in Tennessee, Warrick Dunn in Atlanta and some of the newer folks Jay Cutler and Aaron Rodgers having great days as well.

It was an exciting weekend of football and here's looking to week 3!

I wanted to wish my Mom and Dad a happy 3 year wedding anniversary and also a happy 10 years together next week. Mom thanks for giving Dad a chance 10 years and being a great Mother and Father to me!

I don't have any potential earnings yet so I hope that my birth and daily smiles will be my gift to you in the years to come! Happy Anniversary Mom and Dad!

Goodbye Patrick Mock For Now!

To Patrick Mock my old Santa Clara friend. I am saddened to send off yet another great friend. Luckily Patrick will only be an hour flight way down in LA. I wish you the best in your endeavors and you will be missed up here for sure by your large extended and immediate family as well as your friends.

This is an old picture that we took a couple years back at the now out of business California Buffet! Hopefully we can get down to visit at some point!
Best wishes from the Wang Family!

Great Motivational Speaker at My Weekend Seminar

Dr. Srikumar Rao was an excellent motivational speaker for us to find happiness.

49ers Sigh

I spent my morning in a seminar and as soon as I got back in my car at 2PM, I took off my polo shirt and slipped on my 49er faithful jersey. I lowered the window of my car and flew the 49er flag for the first time this year. The 49er defense held strong, but without help from the offense eventually got ran over with fatigue. 5 turnovers and 3 from JT O'sullivan. As much heat as Alex gets, he at least always took care of the ball. Now Alex has a shoulder injury again. I won't judge a person by his first start but that was very very ugly. We need to beef up the quarterback position with Alex's injury and pick up a veteran if we can. But will this person understand the Mike Martz system? Probably not immediatetly.

So in the meantime we can only hope the defense keeps up strong while the offense needs to prevent turnovers and have some time on the field to give the defense some rest.

It's going to be a long season but it's early we shall see.
